Starting a fresh Barbarian can feel rough if your weapon drops are bad, but Hammer of the Ancients gets around a lot of that pain. It doesn't need a rare Unique to feel playable, and that's a big deal early in Season 13. You hit, you build Fury, you smash the pack, then you move on. If you're sorting through Diablo IV Items while levelling, the main thing to watch is still your two-handed bludgeoning weapon, because a higher damage roll will often beat prettier stats on older gear.

Why Hammer of the Ancients feels good early
The appeal is simple. Hammer of the Ancients lands in a wide area and chunks enemies fast, so you're not stuck poking one monster at a time. Bash keeps Fury coming in a steady way, which matters more than people think. A build can have great numbers on paper, but if you're always empty on resource, it feels awful. Rallying Cry helps smooth that out, and once War Cry and Challenging Shout are added, dungeon pulls stop feeling so scrappy. You'll notice it most in Strongholds, where fights often spill into messy corners.

Skill path while levelling
For the first stretch, keep things boring in the best possible way. Take Bash, get Hammer of the Ancients online, then improve it with its Enhanced and Furious upgrades. That gives you better damage and less Fury stress before the build has all its pieces. After level 20, start leaning into Shouts, Berserking uptime, and defensive passives that stop elite packs from bullying you. The rhythm isn't hard. Bash a few times, pop your Shouts before a dangerous group, then drop Hammer into the middle. On bosses, don't panic-spend every cooldown. Wait for a clean burst window and make it count.

Aspects and gear that matter
Aspect of Ancestral Force is the one most players feel straight away, because the shockwave makes Hammer of the Ancients far better for clearing rooms. Edgemaster's Aspect also fits nicely, since you'll often be playing around higher Fury. Aspect of Limitless Rage can push your burst even further, while Ghostwalker Aspect makes running between packs less clunky. If you're dying too much, use Aspect of Might. No shame in that. Just don't turn the build into a brick wall that takes forever to kill anything. For stats, look at weapon damage first, then Strength, Critical Strike Chance, Overpower Damage, Maximum Fury, and Fury Cost Reduction.

Best activities and common mistakes
Seasonal quests, Helltides, Strongholds, Nightmare Dungeons, and Tree of Whispers are all worth doing, but dense monster areas usually give the smoothest XP. Once Paragon opens up, boards like Carnage, Warbringer, Decimator, and Bone Breaker make sense, with Glyphs such as Exploit, Marshal, Territorial, and Wrath giving reliable scaling. The mistake I see a lot is overbuilding defense too soon. Barbarian is already tough enough for most levelling content, so keep your damage sharp and replace your weapon often. Players checking Diablo IV Items for sale should still remember that the build's real comfort comes from steady Fury, smart Shout use, and a big hammer that isn't five levels out of date.
